For Meredith M.
You stole my heart with a look from your eyes.
What I thought was a blazing fire quickly cooled to ice.
I fell in love with a heart who loved what I love.
Our God you longed to serve,
I thought you more than I deserve.
The talks we had,
the kisses we shared,
the heart on my sleeve I bared.
I didn’t know what changed your mind.
Our passions aligned, like two of a kind.
But as we go our separate paths,
off to the Holy War,
Though I can’t go with you,
I’ll love you from afar.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
