Failed Blessings

by Samantha Terrell

I bless you with will and water, but
you thrash and writhe in its small spray.

It gets in my eyes and on my face.
Yearning – amidst incompetence – to restore your peace,

I succeed only in losing my own.
We both drown in a teaspoon of Holy Water.
