Star of the Sea

By Amanda Pizzolatto (Rated G)

Oh star of the sea
Oh glorious, guiding light
Guide us to Heaven’s harbor
Safely through the night

Oh blessed one, oh marvelous one
Beloved by the One on High
Aid us on our long journey
He listens to your sighs.

Your pleadings hold a tender spot
A special place in His tender Heart
For you are very dear to Him
Because of your special part.

Oh star of the sea
Oh glorious, guiding light
Guide us to Heaven’s harbor
Safely through the night

Clouds gather at the enemy’s command
Storms of life bring darkness and despair
Tumultuous winds threaten to bash us
As rains of sorrow drench us everywhere

But your light breaks through the clouds
The enemy fears you and your gentle hand
With the power the Mighty One has given you
Guide us safely to the promised land

Oh star of the sea
Oh glorious, guiding light
Guide us to Heaven’s harbor
Safely through the night

Oh mighty Queen of Heaven
Commander of the Lord God’s host
Send Michael and all the angels
To aid those who need it most

Until that final, looked for day
When suns shall dance and moons shall sing
And all shall join in the Heavenly chorus
In honor and praise of God our King

Oh star of the sea
Oh glorious, guiding light
Guide us to Heaven’s harbor
Safely through the night

  1. Thank you! You have reminded me of a Mass long ago at Mary Star of the Sea in Oceanside, California while I was training for Viet-Nam. Before Mass a teacher was rehearsing a children’s choir in a song about Mary, Star of the Sea, which was most touching. I have never heard that song since, so perhaps it was a local composition.
